Although some of you may have heard me do some whining about exhibit baby-sitting duty at the conference, it was a choice that I do not regret. I did miss some wonderful sessions, but I am getting caught up with the <a href="http://www.vermontlibraries.org/vlc/handouts"title="VLC 2008 Handouts" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.vermontlibraries.org');">handouts on the conference web site. I also have this wonderful collage of impressions of the sessions that I got when I would ask people to tell me their favorite thing about the conference. Other peoples accounts of an event are often as interesting to me as the events themselves.

I especially want to get in a few thanks to folks who really brightened up my conference:

My DOL colleagues who did their stints at the exhibit with me, especially Teresa Faust who stuck in there during the quiet times and, as always, had plenty of good cheer and humor to contribute to the conversation.

Kit Greening our WebJunction Partner Development Manager who came to the conference to spend some time with us at the exhibit and to get us thinking about the <a href="http://www.webjunction.org/do/DisplayContent?id=20175"title="WebJunction Looking Forward" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.webjunction.org');">changes that will be coming on Webjunction later this summer

Jean Fournier from <a href="http://stjohnsburyacademy.org/page.cfm?p=248"title="St. Johnsbury Academy Library" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/stjohnsburyacademy.org');">St. Johnsbury Academy who always lifts my spirits and has such interesting things to discuss.

Larraby Fellows who was kind to cheer me on for setting up the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/vlc2008"title="VLC 2008 Flickr group" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.flickr.com');">VLC2008 Flickr group and to encourage the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=vlc2008&w=all"title="VLC2008 tags on Flickr" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.flickr.com');">VLC2008 tagging. Some photos other than my own have started showing up and Larraaby tells me that we should also be seeing the photos taken by the “official” conference photographer.

Jerry Carbone for the brief but very useful conversation that we had about the linux public access workstations in his library, <a href="http://www.brooks.lib.vt.us/"title="Brooks Memorial Library" target="_self" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.brooks.lib.vt.us');">Brooks Memorial in Brattleboro, and about his library using <a href="http://webjunction.techatlas.org/tools/"title="TechAtlas" target="_self" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/webjunction.techatlas.org');">TechAtlas to do their technology planning.

Marjorie Shane for getting tracking down our paperwork for the exhibit and staying on it with the conference Internet provider to get my connection up and running.

Anyone and everyone who humored me by answering my stock question, “So what fun things have you been doing at the conference?”

I still need to get in and clean up some of the pictures on Flickr, add some descriptions, remove the really poor ones, and fill in some names. Maybe I will have a chance to do that next week when I head to lovely Dublin, Ohio to spend some time with other WebJunction community partners playing in the new WJ sandbox.

After a lovely walk on the Burlington waterfront, I arrived back at the hotel in time to join the “still standing” team for the pub trivia event. Unfortunately we were not the winning team. That honor went to the “Bat Girls.”

Now I am off to see if I can get some pics of actual sessions during my brief escape from the exhibit hall.

Likely the most repeated phrase to come out of the morning keynote by the <a href="http://www.unshelved.com/"title="Unshelved" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.unshelved.com');">Unshelved guys. Turns out that DOL childrens’ consultant Grace Greene was the only one able raise her hand to signify that , yes, she had encountered bacon used as a bookmark.

As much as I would have enjoyed the keynote, I was busy here in the exhibit hall getting my gadgets lined up. We now have our <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/vlc2008/"title="VLC 2008 Flickr group" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.flickr.com');">Flickr group for adding attendees pics from the conference and we are encouraging tagging with <a href="http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=vlc2008&w=all"title="VLC2008" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.flickr.com');">VLC2008

So far we have a couple of members in the group and I keep encouraging folks to come on by so I can upload their photos. Looking forward to seeing lots of the goings on beyond my little exhibit.
