Must Participate in CDP if Applying for PA Humanities Council Grants Starting in July 2011

The Pennsylvania Humanities Council has entered in partnership with the Pennsylvania Cultural Data Project (CDP), the first on-line management tool designed to strengthen arts and cultural organizations.

Starting in July 2011, Small Grant and Large Grant applicants will be required to participate in CDP. If you have any questions about this, please contact Virginia Fahey at vfahey@pahumanities.org;

Participating in this project also offers:

reporting tools to track trends and benchmark against other organizations by discipline, budget size and geographic region
Streamlined grant application process to participating funders
Toll-free Help Desk and User Support assistance and free access (by phone) to a team of financial consultants specializing in accounting for nonprofits
Statewide on-location, web-based and online training

Digital Storytelliing Grant

TechSoup Global will kick off their annual Online Digital Storytelling Challenge January 13, 2011. Last year, over 100 organizations participated, with top submissions earning prizes from Flip Video, Adobe, Flickr, and GoldMail.

The goal of the project is ”to help nonprofits think creatively about using technology to fulfill their missions, without having a fear of technology and by learning a new skill with an element of fun,” says Susan Tenby, Director, Online Community and Social Media Team, TechSoup Global.

The event has an educational component and leaves participants with marketing materials they can continue to use to support their fundraising, online presence, and marketing efforts.

Organizations are given several weeks to create a 60 second video or photo submission, showcasing their mission and work. No production or storytelling experience is necessary. Leading up to event, TechSoup will provide free webinars on tools and strategies for creating your digital story, featuring leading nonprofit, media, and communications experts. Organizations will also be able to share resources and participate using the #TSDigs tag across social media channels, such as Delicious.com, Twitter, Flickr, and YouTube. Learn more!

Candidates Sought for Google Policy Fellowship

The ALA Washington Office is participating in the Google Policy Fellowship program for the summer of 2011. Google Policy Fellows work in diverse areas of information policy that include broadband, net neutrality, free expression, open access to information, domestic and international copyright policy, online privacy, and open government. Read the District Dispatch post here. The deadline for applications is January 17, 2011. Selected students will spend ten weeks this summer working at a diverse range of organizations.
