MYERS LIBRARY SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE

The Napoleon Public Library Board of Trustees would like to announce the availability of the Rachael Bradley Myers and Dayl S. Myers Scholarship in memory of their son, Joseph Bradley Myers. In 1988, the Library received
$75,346.31 from the Myers estate. The principal is invested and the interest income may be used annually at the discretion of the Trustees to provide a scholarship or scholarships to aid a person or persons pursuing a fifth year degree or Master’s degree in Library Science. For 2010, $3000.00 will be disbursed for qualified MLS candidates in accordance with the Library Board’s decision.

Dayl and Rachael Myers grew up in Napoleon and graduated from Napoleon High School in 1914. Dayl was a telephone engineer for Bell laboratories for thirty-five years. They lived in Towaco, New Jersey, but returned to Napoleon in 1960 upon Dayl’s retirement. Their later years were spent in St. Petersburg, Florida.

To apply for the Myers scholarship, applicants must send a resume, letter of intent, or essay concerning career goals to Napoleon Public Library, 310 W. Clinton Street, Napoleon, Ohio 43545 by May 1, 2010. Proof of admission to Library School must be included.

Since the Myers family was native to Henry County, the Library Board feels preference should be given to Henry County residents who apply. A personal interview with the Library Board on June 1, 2010 may be required, also. The scholarship winner will be required to give a detailed account of expenditures and complete the program within three years.

2010 Northern Ohio Technical Services Librarians (NOTSL) Scholarships

Applications for 2010 Northern Ohio Technical Services Librarians (NOTSL) Scholarships are now being accepted.

Applicants must either be currently working in an Ohio library in a professional, para-professional, or support position in a technical services area, or be students (residing or studying in Ohio) currently taking coursework in librarianship. The content of the proposed educational activity must relate to technical services, cataloging, serials, acquisitions, preservation, processing, or management of technical services. Typically funded activities can include costs for workshops, conference, coursework, professional meetings or research, but not training required by an employer. The deadline for submissions is December, 11, 2009.

Medical Library Association (MLA) is now accepting applications for The Donald A. B. Lindberg Research Fellowship.

The Medical Library Association (MLA) is now accepting applications for The Donald A. B. Lindberg Research Fellowship. The purpose of this fellowship is to fund research aimed at expanding the research knowledgebase, linking the information services provided by librarians to improved health care and advances in biomedical research. The endowment will provide a $9,945 grant, awarded by MLA through a competitive grant process, to a qualified health sciences librarian, informatician, health professional, researcher, educator, or health administrator. Research in alignment with MLA’s research agenda’s top ranked research questions is preferred over other areas of research and is located at http://www.mlanet.org/research/agenda_2008.html.

OLSSI SUPER Scholarships

OLSSI Scholarships are awards covering the entire $225 registration fee for the annual Ohio Library Support Staff Institute. This will allow three people to attend the 2009 Institute free of charge. To apply, you must meet the following criteria:

1. Be presently employed as a library support staff member.

2. Be a first-time attendee of the Ohio Library Support Staff Institute.

3. Agree to contribute to the planning the 2010 Institute as a Steering Committee member.

How to Apply:

Please write, in 200 words or less, why you would like to attend the Institute, and how you think attending OLSSI will help you and enhance your library/work performance.

* All applications must be written by the applicant, and not their supervisor(s).

* The Scholarship Contest begins at 8:00 AM, March 21, 2009.

* Deadline for scholarship entry is 5:00 PM, April 21, 2009.

* Winners will be announced on or before April 24, 2009.

NOTSL Accepting Scholarship Applications

Each year the Northern Ohio Technical Services Librarians (NOTSL) awards scholarships to persons currently working in a professional, para-professional, or support position in a technical services area in an Ohio library, or to persons currently taking technical services related course work/training who plan a career in Technical Services.

NOTSL is now accepting applications for scholarships to fund activities that take place in the calendar year, from January to December of 2009.

One of these scholarships will be designated as the Jane Myers Cataloging and Metadata Scholarship and will be awarded to an individual whose focus is primarily on Technical Services Librarianship as it relates to cataloging. Applicants need not indicate that they are applying specifically for this scholarship, but only applicants who meet the Myers Scholarship’s criteria will be considered for this special designation.”
