Basic Functions:

  • Performs routine library activities (e.g., prepares material for circulation, shelves material, processes orders, etc.); responds to routine inquiries from library patrons and provides clerical support; follows established guidelines and procedures in performing tasks. Contract Length 12 month Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities Gathers and prepares material for binding or circulation (e.g., proofreads bibliographic descriptions, call numbers, labels, etc., applies labels and barcodes, inserts pockets, files looseleaf updates, examines items to determine appropriate binding treatment).
  • Checks library material in and out, using manual or online systems; sorts and shelves items according to location and call numbers; collects fines for overdue material; responds to basic inquiries (e.g., directions, location of material).
  • Processes orders for library material; may post invoices and issue claims for non-received items.
  • Searches shelves to locate material requested by patrons; assists patrons using microform or other equipment.
  • Performs basic bibliographic searches (e.g., control numbers, author-title); retrieves and transfers (i.e., downloads) records to local databases.
  • Maintains records and statistics; may compile statistics when requested; answers telephone; receives and distributes mail and shipments; types correspondence, work forms, dissertations, etc., according to established procedures.
  • May drive vehicle to deliver and retrieve library material as requested.
  • May train and direct student or temporary employees; may participate in training new employees.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Leadership and Supervision: Some supervision of student employees

Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience-Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of six months experience performing general office or library tasks.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of library or office procedures.
2. Ability to operate microcomputer or CRT terminal.
3. Ability to read, write, and accurately follow oral and written instructions.
4. Skill in interpersonal communication to effectively interact with University personnel and public in person and over the telephone (e.g., to assist patrons in locating material and in the operation of equipment).
5. Ability to sort items according to established methods.
6. Ability to maintain accurate records.
7. Knowledge of standard procedures for alphanumeric filing.
8. Ability to perform basic mathematics (e.g., add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and to calculate percentages).

Additional Information(Unique characteristics or needs of the position):

Must pass a security check and will be given a skills assessment. Knowledge of Microsoft Word required.
College library experience and knowledge of OhioLINK, journal acquisition procedures, and mail machine operation is highly desirable.

Work Schedule:

This is a part-time position, thirty-two (32) hours per week; varied work hours and shifts to include evenings and weekends to meet departmental needs.

Salary Base: 10.48

Physical Requirements:

Light physical effort required involving stooping and bending; regular lifting of lightweight objects (up to 25 pounds) such as three or four reams of paper or textbooks.
