Interested in learning customer service skills to enhance service to your library’s community? Traverse des Sioux Library System (TdS) and SELCO are pleased to bring Peg Werner, Director of the Viking Library System, to the Traverse des Sioux Library System Office in Mankato on Wednesday, May 5th for a workshop called Serving Your Community. This workshop, a core offering of the Minnesota Certification program, will focus on aspects of customer service in the library.
Free to all members of the Minnesota Regional Public Library Systems and interested library staff from libraries of all types across the state. Lunch is on your own.
This workshop will address the following MN Certification competencies:
*Technical Services: Collection Development 1, 3, 4; Cataloging and Classification 1
*Public Services: Administrative and Planning Services 1, 2, 9; Direct Patron Services 1, 2, 9

If you have taken Introduction to Library Service Day 1 and have completed your Minnesota Certification homework, please feel free to attend! Have you seen the blog, Librarian By Day? http://librarianbyday.wordpress.com/ It’s written by Bobbie Newman, who will be coming to Minnesota in April to present the workshop, Reference in the Electronic Age. Should be fun! It’s open to all Minnesota library staff and is sponsored by the Minnesota Certification program. And, no registration fee!
At this workshop, attendees will learn how to conduct effective reference interviews, incorporate computer based resources and new technology into library services, how to fill information using resources beyond the immediate collection, and federal, state, and local requirements for Internet and computer usage in the library environment. Follow up by training a patron or a group – apply those skills to strengthen Minnesota’s residents!
Bobbi Newman serves as Digital Services Librarian, Missouri River Regional Library in Jefferson City, MO and as adjunct instructor at the University of Missouri, School of Information Science & Learning Technologies.
