Gerding on Grants (for Libraries)

The latest issue of Online magazine (Nov/Dec 2008) features a librarian’s guide to seeking grants written by library grant guru Stephanie Gerding. “Tips and Resources for Finding Grants” also includes Stephanie’s 8 P’s for success: planning, passion & persuasion, purpose, precision, partnerships, positivity and people.

Led by Stephanie’s own library grants blog, this great list of resources and tips couldn’t come at a better time for librarians stuggling to provide excellent services in the face of declining economic resources and rising demand. This is a great article to “clip” and keep at hand in your office.

Library Statistics at the State Data Center

The State Data Center website has a new page – library statistics. www.kslib.info/sdc/library_stats.html

I hope to have quick reference information for librarians, trustees and everyone else. Hopefully it will be helpful with marketing, fundraising and grant seeking. If nothing else it’s nice to have numbers behind what we already know – that Kansas’ libraries are second to none and our patrons know it.

It is a work in progress, as I only have public library stats up so far. I will be putting information on academic libraries soon. If anyone knows of a good source for school libraries, or if you have any other suggestions, I woud appreciate it.

Check out this online resource that can help you find possible grantors. On the Council of Foundations website, use the map of the U.S to find foundations in Kansas. Clicking on the Foundation’s name will give you more information about the Foundation’s interests, and help you decide whether your library’s needs are a match!
