• Find It: Ever wonder why librarians buy the books and other items they buy for their library? Among all the items published every year, how do they choose the ones just right for their community? If you are just starting to buy materials for your library or would like to sharpen your skills, come to this beginning workshop on collection development. Learn about selection policies, print and online resources for reviews, and other methods for choosing the right item.
• Buy It: Now that you know how to decide what to buy for your library collection, how do you decide where to buy it? This workshop looks at working with vendors, salesmen, group discounts, standing orders, and other methods related to the buying of materials.
• Toss It: At some point, before you completely run out of space to shelve books and other library materials, you will have to decide when enough is enough. The items you buy have to earn their keep. If they are not being used or are worn out, they need to be removed so others that better appeal to the community can be purchased. This session centers on how to evaluate and weed your collection.
