DESCRIPTION
This workshop is for all library staff. Participants will:
In FY2007, Lincoln Trail Libraries System held two diversity forums featuring Susan O’Halloran called “Walking the Talk.” Susan’s enlightning and non-threatening approach for inclusion in all types of organizations is one that can benefit all libraries. With that in mind, LTLS has captured the essence of these workshops in a series of videos along with downloadable handouts intended to be used in your own library. Some of the handouts are for small group work and some are intended to help raise awareness of yourself and your own biases. All materials are free and available for your use.
The Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is offering a new online, non-credit continuing education course, Serving Diverse Populations in the Library. Intended for Librarians and information professionals in all types of libraries, the purpose of this course is to create an awareness of and sensitivity to diverse information needs of multiethnic/multicultural/multilingual populations served by libraries.
For more information about this unique opportunity and to register visit the UIUC web site.
The Second Annual Diversity Fair will be held on Thursday, October 11 from 2:00-3:30 during the Illinois Library Association 2007 Annual Conference in Springfield.
Sponsored by DEMCO and the Illinois Library Systems Directors Organization, the Diversity Fair is a chance for conference participants to learn about programs and initiatives around the state that address diverse user populations. Participants in the Fair will be provided with space for a poster or table-top display and will have the chance to interact with conference goers to explain more about their projects. If you would like to register for the event, complete the brief submission form. Contact Amanda McKay with any further questions.
