Illinois Secretary of State/State Librarian Jesse White and Governor Pat Quinn have proclaimed October as Information Literacy Month in Illinois.
“I believe information literacy is critical to developing lifelong learning,” said Secretary White. “When all Illinois citizens can access and use written information, their increased skills will enhance the quality of life for all of us.”
The State Library Literacy Office provides adult literacy program services that enable Illinois citizens to fully engage in their roles as family members, workers and community participants. Through Adult Literacy grant programs, the Illinois State Library awards funds that provide basic adult literacy instruction to students.
