Literacy Spotlight: De La Salle Tolton Center

This week the Illinois State Library spotlights De La Salle Tolton Center in Chicago.

A Chicago woman regretted not obtaining her high school diploma for 50 years. When she retired and had the time, she began to study for the GED. Her determination paid off and she completed the GED requirements at the age of 76!

At her graduation ceremony, her message to others was powerful. She spoke to the audience about  following their dreams and not giving up. This adult learner has decided to become a counselor to encourage people to persevere and achieve their goals.  The Tolton Center is helping her attend college to achieve that goal.
