This week we spotlight Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield. Wanting a better life for herself and her family, this adult learner sought out English as a Second Language classes at Lincoln Land. With two children it was difficult to attend class.
The woman’s instructor referred her to the Family Literacy Program to obtain assistance with child care through child education classes. The woman not only continues to attend ESL classes but participates in parenting classes, parent-child activities and library services. Her enthusiasm for learning English has rubbed off on other students in the class.
She also wants to become a U.S. citizen and is attending citizenship classes. Through the Family Literacy program she became familiar with her public library and she and her family now visit the library often.
