The Teaching with Primary Sources program at Illinois State University is offering professional development opportunities for, media specialists, teaching librarians, classroom teachers, and support personnel during the fall of 2008.
Participants will build the knowledge and skills needed to access and utilize digital primary resources from the Library of Congress. Participants will produce standards-based curriculum using Internet-based resources while earning 25 CPDUs or 2 ISU graduate credits. The dates for training are listed below.
Level 1
Participants will become familiar with the breadth and organization of the Library of Congress’ digital primary sources, understand their value in instruction, and create basic inquiry-based learning experience. The majority of requirements for this workshop course will be completed online. There will be face-to-face meetings held from 4:30-7:30 on September 9 and December 2, 2008.

Level 2
Participants will evaluate, create, and teach subject-specific, standards-based learning experiences that integrate primary sources from the Library of Congress and exemplify instructional best practices. The successful completion of An Adventure of the American Mind or Teaching with Primary Sources Level 1 is a prerequisite for this course. The majority of requirements for this workshop course will be completed online. There will be face-to-face meetings held from 4:30-7:30 on September 11 and December 4, 2008.
