It comes as no surprise that library service in Connecticut varies from county to county. The charts available in Connecticut Public Library Statistics, By County help illustrate some of these differences. These charts have been updated recently with FY2009 data and include both library use and financial measures.
Despite some declining budgets and no increases in service hours, Connecticut public libraries continue to be as busy as ever. According to statistics gathered from public libraries for FY2009, most library use measures continued to show substantial growth. Sprint’s Character Education Grant Program awards grants to school districts and individual schools for resource materials, supplies, equipment and software that facilitates and encourages character education among K-12 students.
Individual schools can receive up to $5,000; school district up to $25,000. The grant application period runs January 4 to February 5, 2010.

The Starbucks Foundation created Shared Planet Youth Action Grants to help young people realize their natural potential to reinvent their local communities.
Grants range from $10,000 to $25,000; applicants need to be organizations that provide young people (ages 6 to 24) with a continuum of service opportunities in social entrepreneurship.

The American Library Association’s Office for Research and Statistics is accepting applications for the Carroll Preston Baber Research Grant.
